Bill Description

This amendment, offered by Rep. Mulvaney (R-SC), Rep. Van Hollen (D-MD), Rep. Coffman (R-CO), and Rep. Murphy (D-FL), reduced funds made available in the Overseas Contingency Operations budgets by approximately $3.55 billion to correspond with the amount requested by the President while protecting amounts made available for homeland defense and emergency response.

Liberty for All's Position

Prior to this amendment, the Defense Department Appropriations bill continued to illustrate the excesses of the modern military-industrial complex by providing more funding than had been determined necessary and requested by the executive branch. Liberty For All is opposed to wasting taxpayer dollars in all its forms and it is immoral and disrespectful to the sacrifices made by American military families to dole out bloated contracts and crony gifts to well-connected contractors under the guise of national defense and in their name. By cutting unnecessary funding while still providing for homeland defense and emergency response, this amendment was another small step in the direction towards reducing wasteful defense spending and reeling in the ballooning deficit without jeopardizing the lives of our military or our national defense.
