Legislative Scorecard

By combining votes on civil liberties, non-intervention, personal freedom, government spending, and monetary policy we are able to provide a more accurate measure of who supports the liberty agenda. We can also prevent legislators from claiming support when convenient but voting the other way when they think no one is watching. We are watching and with your help - we will ensure Congress knows it.

Bill Description

This amendment, offered by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), would prohibit funding the use of force pursuant to the Authorization for Military Force (AUMF) effective on December 31, 2014, when the last American combat troops are scheduled to rotate out of Afghanistan.

Liberty for All's Position

This amendment would essentially end the war in Afghanistan and also put an end to the repeated extensions of the 2001 AUMF by Congress. As Rep. Schiff noted "The 2001 AUMF was never intended to authorize a war without end, and it now poorly defines those who pose a threat to our country." The AUMF essentially allows the President to engage in open-ended warfare without a congressional declaration of war and continues to send American troops into combat with a vague and poorly defined objective. Liberty For All strongly supports winding down the war in Afghanistan and bringing our troops home. While we must always keep America safe, we owe it to our citizens, especially our men and women in the military, to do so in a way that avoids putting them in harm's way. The security for Afghanistan must pass to the Afghani people and is not the responsibility of the United States and Congress must not abdicate its Congressional responsibility to declare war.
