Legislative Scorecard

By combining votes on civil liberties, non-intervention, personal freedom, government spending, and monetary policy we are able to provide a more accurate measure of who supports the liberty agenda. We can also prevent legislators from claiming support when convenient but voting the other way when they think no one is watching. We are watching and with your help - we will ensure Congress knows it.

H.R. 259

Bill Description

This bill, originally introduced by Rep. Pompeo (R-KS), amends the Internal Revenue Code to repeal a variety of energy tax credits and expenditures and directs the Secretary of the Treasury to prescribe a flat income tax for corporations in lieu of existing marginal tax rates based upon the revenue savings projected by the other repeals provided for by this Act.

Liberty for All's Position

Sustainable growth and real energy reform is only possible when the environment is full of innovation, entrepreneurship, and healthy competition. This bill paves the path toward reviving energy entrepreneurship by eliminating lobbyist sponsored subsidies and crony credits. It is not the proper role of the federal government, and especially not the U.S. tax code, to engage in social engineering by picking economic winners and losers. Liberty For All supports markets free of government intervention and encourage and environment in which companies are rewarded on the merits of their ideas and not on the basis of their Capitol Hill connections. This bill takes the fairest approach to the energy market and it further creates a level playing field by eliminating corporate welfare and flattening corporate tax rates.

Current Status

This bill was assigned to a congressional committee on January 15, 2013, which will consider it before possibly sending it on to the House or Senate as a whole.
