Mulvaney Amendment to Offset Hurricane Sandy Relief by Cuts in Discretionary Spending
Amendment to: H.R. 152 - Disaster Relief Appropriations Act, 2013
Liberty for All's PositionThis amendment would have enabled the communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy to still receive assistance but would have accounted for the unexpected costs of that help. By offsetting the costs of assistance the amendment helped ensure that we would not have to continue to borrow money to provide for our communities and encouraged restraint on behalf of Congress. As noted in our opposition to the overall relief bill, a large portion of the "emergency" spending was for multi-year appropriations that were not actually a response to a crisis situation and this amendment would have required Congress to find a way to pay for those funding requests.
